I am trying to use the OCC and OCCLY variables from CPS to analyze wage distribution across occupations. Are there any aggregate categories available for these variables, so that I have fewer occupational groups to compare?
Although it is true that the codes in OCC and OCCLY do not necessarily have obvious aggregations. The temporally harmonized occupation variables OCC2010 and OCC10LY do have section headings that allow for reasonable aggregations. For example, using OCC2010, codes 0010 - 0430 all fall under the “Management, Business, Science and Arts” heading.
