I select birthplace from CPS 95 and also IPUMS 2000 1%.
Codes indicate state FIPS codes available, as well as foreign countries.
Downloaded data includes no codes for state FIPS codes?
What am I doing wrong here?
I believe you may be looking only at your CPS extract right now. State of birth cannot be determined in the CPS data. I downloaded your 2000 1% extract and confirmed that it does contain state FIPS codes for birthplace.
