How can I access sex by age totals (including Census and estimates) for all U.S. states for years 1975-2015?

I need to complete an analysis that requires state-level population totals by sex and age group for a 41-year period (1975-2015). Ideally, I would like to have the Census totals as well as annual estimates for each year. I don't need individual-level data, but rather totals for each state organized by sex and age. I can obtain these data for years 2005-2015 on American FactFinder (see example attached), but nothing before 2005. Please let me know if it's possible to obtain these data for the full four decades.

IPUMS does not supply the Census's annual population estimates at this time. For now, you can obtain state- and county-level estimates by sex and age via the Census Bureau website at https://www.census.gov/programs-surve.... You'll need to click through to separate pages for different years, but it appears that all of the information is available there.

None of the IPUMS projects disseminate annual population estimates, but the US Census Bureau Population Estimates program provides state-level annual population estimates, broken down by sex and age.

Here are links to the sites where you can access the data. Unfortunately, there isn't a standard data layout for each time period (1970-1979, 1980-1989, 1990-1999, 2000-2009, and 2010-2016), so you will have to do some data restructuring to create a consistent file layout.
