Question

I am trying to download agriculture and population data for the 1860 Census. Is that data available?

I am specifically looking for population composition (slave, white, half breed, etc) and cotton production for 1860. I can't seem to find those variables as an option in the data part. I know that data is part of the 1860 census. Is it available through the IPUMS?

In the 1860 Census, the recorded race values were White, Black, Mulatto, American Indian/Alaskan native, and Chinese. All of this information is available in the detailed version of the race variable: RACED (select "Detailed codes" to see "Mulatto"). We also make available the 1850 and 1860 Slave Samples. At this time, we do not provide microdata for the 1860 Agricultural Census.

Hope this helps.
