I have income data on Brazil in 1991. What does the top code of 9,999,997 mean?

When summarizing my data in stata, there are values for inctot such as 9,999,997; 9,999,996; 9,999,991; etc. that are much higher than the actual values should be.

Top Codes represent, where applicable, a determination that some high values of total income were too sparse and specific to be recorded as they were reported without the possibility of identifying the respondents. As a result, numerous high value cases are grouped together under one particular high value to protect respondent anonymity.
