I am interested in collecting cross national data on demographic and gender and work information. I am specifically looking to compare the U.S. with at least one Scandinavian country. I do not see Scandinavian countries included in the extract options. Are there ways to locate data on Scandiavian countries and combine with an IPUMS extract?
The Scandinavian countries have not yet agreed to participate in IPUMS-International. The Scandinavian statistical offices have developed a remote access system but to use it you must reside in one of the Scandinavian countries. As far as I am aware there is no other way to access Scandinavian microdata, nor do I know any IPUMS user who has actually accessed their system. Statistics Finland is currently considering joining the IPUMS collaboratory. Once the microdata are entrusted, the integration process may take a year or two.
