I requested 1987 NHIS data in my extract, and I see a sample size with smoking data that matches that of the Cancer Epidemiology Supplement. But I’m not getting a sample size that would lead me to believe the Cancer Control Supplement is included. Or were these 2 supplements administered to the same group of participants that year?
According to the 1987 sample guidelines, it looks like these two supplements were asked of the same group of people in the 1987 sample. More information about the cancer control file and the cancer epidemiology file are available here and here.
