Question

Is the IND90 cross walk publicly available? I would like have an integrated industry measure for the NLSY79.

I'm using the NLSY79 which provides industries in 1970 and 2000 codes. Unfortunately, there was a large redesign of the industry codes in 1990 making it difficult to construct a clear map between 3 digit or even 1 digit codes. IPUMS has apparently solved this problem with their IND90 variable, but I can't seem to find their crosswalk online. The occupation crosswalk is available here: https://usa.ipums.org/usa/resources/chapter4OCCBLS_paper.pdf

You will want to use the Translation Table for IND1990 found here, with instructions for reading the table found here. The Translation Table shows you the value of IND from each Census year that corresponds to a harmonized IND1990 category.

Hope this helps.
