Is it possible to code race of spouse? Additionally, race of spouse and whether or not they are foreign born?

I am working on a marriage paper about second generation single and unmarried nigerian women and who they marry in the U.S. For example, are their spouses foreign born/nigerian or US borna/african american?

Yes, this is possible due to the "Attach Characteristics" tool in the IPUMS data extract system. Note that the RACE variable (even the detailed version) does not uniquely identify Nigerian, but the ANCESTR1 variable does have a code for Nigerian. Before you finally submit your data extract, you can attach the characteristics of the individual's spouse using the attach characteristics tool. See this link for a video tutorial.
