Link second-level geography (regency) code across Indonesian censuses

Since Indonesia has experienced massive regency expansions between 1995 and 2010, I am wondering if there is any better way to link the regency code across census than matching the name, or using the wikipedia information of how division happens to manually code it.

I know that IPUMS is still in the process of creating a harmonized variable for second-level geography with consistent boundaries over time. Do you know when this may be available or whom I should contact to get more details on this practice or guidance on how I should do this by myself?

Thanks a lot!

Sharon

I just touched base with the IPUMS International team and they have plans in place to release harmonized geographies for Indonesia in March. So, if you don’t mind waiting just a few more weeks, this work should be done for you.
