I found that MIGSTA1 is missing for many individuals for 1995 and saw it is missing for all observations for 1985. I saw this answer about MIGSTA1 for 1995 here, but hoped to know more about the reason for missing values of the variable in 1985.

There was an error in MIGSTA1 in the 1995 sample which was causing the observation you raise here. This issue has been fixed in our system and will be reflected online with the next data release. This release should be within the next couple weeks. Regarding the “missing” values in of MIGSTA1 in the 1985 ASEC sample, not that this variable is not available in this sample.
