Question

We would like the smoking prevalence of adults in the Houston/Harris County area.

We would like the smoking prevalence of ADULTS (18 and over) in the Houston/Harris County area.

We are interested in these data by zip code level but understand you may not have that granularity.

We are interested in these data by race/ethnic categories and by age categories and by income level categories, if available.

Unfortunately, the MPC data resources are unlikely to be appropriate for your purposes. IPUMS-CPS does contain information on tobacco use; however, the most recent year of the Tobacco Supplement is 2011. Further, the sample size of the Houston metro area would likely be too small to group the data into race or age categories while remaining geographically representative.

The IHIS provides information on smoking, but it is not possible to identify geographies lower than the Census region. Finally, it is not possible to identify households or respondents at the zip code level in any of the microdata resources. I recommend checking the CDC data resources, as they have aggregated data on smoking and tobacco use.

Sorry that I could not deliver better news.
